3 Bachateros y Reggaeton Bachateros (Jaccar Garcia, Franklin Mancebo & Katherine Hunt)
Our Purpose
Fig 1. - Shows how people were being what they were expected to be
In this assignment the purpose is to ensure that we give the others an enduring understanding that is meaningful about Hispanics as well as African Americans. How the different types of ethnicities tie in with how these people are determined throughout this assignment. For ex. Usually African Americans and Hispanics let others define who they are. That is known as the Double Consciousness. W.E.B. Dubois wrote the Double Consciousness and it is how people view themselves in other peoples' eyes instead of the people stating who they are themselves. Events DuBois & The Double Cosciousness:
Fig 2-W.E.B. DuBois
Many Hispanics that sing the genre of Bachata part-take in what is known as the Double Consciousness. When people in America view these artists and they tour here most of them seem to change up their songs into English or add an English portion to the song. A great example of this is the artist Prince Royce. His song Stand By Me was written in English and than he came up with a version that was in Spanglish. Since 52 % of Hispanics are bilingual that can ultimately be one of the reasons that artist feel as though they need to be "Americanized". Being "Americanized" in many people's eyes is following cultures and the ways as well as the ideas of Americans or of Hispanics in America. There is a lack of equality with immigrants that come to the United States. Many Hispanics are discriminated against because of where they come from.
Dred Scott Decision:
Fig. 3- Dred Scott
Dred Scott was an African American Slave in the United States who fought for his freedom. Scott was the slave of an officer in the US army named Lawrence Taliaferro. In 1833 Taliaferro took Scott with him from the slave state Missouri to the free state Illinois. Later than Scott's master was ordered by the Army to go back to missouri where he took Scott back with him but then died. From 1846 to 1857 Dred Scott went from court to court searching to return back to his freedom. Through out his journey Scott was helped by Abolitionist lawyers who had their case lead to the United Sated Supreme Court. In 1857 the court ruled that African Americans could no demand to have freedom. Therefore Scott lost the decision but was later freed by Henry Taylor Blow who was his original owner. In 1858 Scott died from Tuberculosis and was buried in Missouri. About Bachata
Fig. 4- Prince Royce, his song is showcased below
Bachata originated in the countryside of the Dominican Republic in the early 1960’s. Its songs are often about love, and tales of heartbreak. Through out the time bachata began to change and different artist began to enrich the bachata style. It began with bachata bolero that has a slow temple with emotional lyrics. Later then cabaret bachata came along essentially rough but than brought into social rejection. After came in sexual double entendre bachata, techno bachata, frontier bachata, romantic bachata, and finally vallenato. Bachata is a four step dance that can be carried out in an open or closed position depending on the song.

About Reggaeton
In the bachata group there will be great amount of talk about reggaeton . I will be taking two different eras of a song that is Puerto Rican and well Reggaeton. I’ll study how the music has change over the time and the different meanings and emotion that the artist puts into it. For an example, Reggaeton hit Puerto Rico in the late 1980’s and it was sung in like a festive way of people just having a good time and partying. Also was to give deep meanings via song. Sadly, like all good things. Recreation started losing it’s true meaning and changed when Puerto Ricans began to move to the states. People began rapping about how the used drugs and about have sex with women and just doing bad stuff.
Fig. 5- Vico C, his music is below
There are still a small selected group that still sing with passion and meaning and as well as things that matter such as the amazing and talented Vico C. then there are some that rap such for the fun of it and to make music such as Don Omar, Wisin y yandel, rakim y ken y. While there are some that rap about sex, drugs and killing like Tego Calderon, calle 13 ect. So, I’ll be taking one of the first artists that started out when Reggaeton was new witch is Vico C. Then I’ll be using a mid 2000’s artist and see how it’s slowing changing then I’ll take a new song from today and comparing them on how they changed and how the rhythm is, if they have polyrhythm ect ect.
